Project 365 | Day 32 Chained Up

If you have been following you know that I have been sick with the flu for just about a week now.  And after four days of being stuck in the house I was beginning to get a little sick of being sick.  So finally today we had nice weather and I was able to get out for a few minutes while running an errand for work.  I always have a camera with me, today I had my trusty Coolpix S6300 in my pocket. When I noticed this very large chain near one of the buildings in Pittsburgh, I thought to myself that really represents the way I was feeling while I was “chained up” in the house by the flu, I absolutely had to take a photo.

Project 365 | Day 31 Stop Throwing That Ball

So today I was finally able to get out of the house and go back to work.  If I only could have enjoyed those days off rather than lay around feeling like I was hit buy a bus.  But as a good friend says “It is what it is”.  Although I was able to get out I didn’t want to spend too much time in this wonderful weather we have so I’m going to post a photo from a trip in the fall into Oakland, which is an area in Pittsburgh, and also the home of Pitt University.

As we were wandering around the area I happened upon this sign painted on a building and just thought it was in an odd place.  This was on a small side street and there was hardly room to drive down the street, let alone play ball.

Project 365 | Day 26 Snow Covered

Today I finally made it out in the day light to do a little photography.  I managed to make it to a couple of different places before the darkness settled in for another cool night.  The weather around here is so up and down it’s really hard to plan anything.  Today it was in the mid 20’s and tonight it’s roughly 37ºF.  Tomorrow it’s to be 26º and Tuesday the high temp is 7ºF.  Well that’s enough complaining about the weather.

So tonight’s photo is the main house of West Overton Village, which was the birth place of Henry Frick.  Henry Frick started a small coal and coke business in the late 1870’s which went on to become one of the largest coke producers in the country.  He also went into business with Andrew Carnegie, who had a tremendous influence in the Pittsburgh area during the height of the steel industry.

Project 365 | Day 25 Cold Night

Tonight when I left work the temp was low, the snow was blowing and I just wasn’t looking forward to the long drive home.  But I did manage to get a single shot of this gentleman crossing the street as he steadily walked through the snow and ice, perhaps on his way home.

Tomorrow I’m hoping to get out in the daylight to do a little snow, ice and possibly some water shots.  Well if the weather cooperates.

Walking in the Cold

Project 365 | Day 24 Old and New

So tonight I headed back out into the abyss of darkness and cold to bring you guys another city shot from a different perspective.  I look up to the dark sky and see the lights in the office buildings, and I think to myself are there still people up there working?  Is that what it means to chase the American dream, work all day and night never having any time for the fun things in life, like wandering around with a camera in the freezing cold.  Then again it could be their passion to work the hours and get their piece of the pie.  Lets face it, not everyone is cut out to walk around in the freezing temps and blistering wind just to find something to ramble on about in a blog post.  So I guess they do what they do and I do what I do and we just have our own bit of happiness.  I guess what I’m trying to say is: Do what makes you happy and enjoy as much of your life as possible.

The title of this post is old and new, as this photo show some of the old architecture of the city as well as a bit of the new.

Let me know what you think.

Project 365 | Day 23 Macy’s

If you haven’t noticed I like to photograph things in the late evening or at night.  There is just something about the lighting and atmosphere that you get at night.  So last night I was out for a walk in Pittsburgh and came across this sign and I just liked the lighting.

Let me know what you think.

Project 365 | Day 22 Street Color

Once again the temperatures dropped into the single digits with the high in the city of around 11ºF.  And as usual I worked all day so my photo for the day would have to come from a night walk.  So after work, with a temperature of 7ºF,  I bundled my self up and set out for a walk through the city.  I know your thinking to yourself this guy is a little off and you  would be right.  I enjoy being out in the cold and really enjoy it when I can make it part of my photography.

One of the photos I took tonight caught my eye as I walked across an alley.  The firs thing that caught my eye was the large amount of steam coming from building on the right, The second thing was my elongated shadow from a street light across.  So I took a few shots and decided that this photo should be a combination of both color and B&W.  And I think that the finished results lend themselves to my way of thinking.

What do you think?  Comments and discussions are always liked.
