365 – 100 Mannequin Down

Tonight as I left work I headed up the street passed Macy’s Department Store.  As i normally do, I was looking at the window displays and came across this one.  I fairly certain that the mannequin in this photo was standing up yesterday as I walked by.  Kinda made me thing of the movie from a few years back called “Mannequin”.

365 – 99 Things that Make You Go… What??

You know that look your dog gives you when he is a little confused?  You know the one I mean, Ears up, head tilted to the side and a very perplexed look on his face.  Well for the past couple of months I’ve had that same look from time to time while on my walks in Pittsburgh.  Before I tell you what it was that made me tilt my head and say “What??” I have to let you know that I’m usually not easel confused and I can typically figure something out quickly on my own.  But this item really had me confused.

I’ve seen a glimpse of it from time to time over the last few months, at first I thought I was seeing things than once I got a really good look at it the confusion took over, and of course that tilted head and perplexed look on my face.  Being a photographer I, of course, decided that I had to get a photo of this elusive item just for some peace of mind and proof that I wasn’t seeing things.  Well that was back in February and it has taken me until tonight to get a shot of one of the many cars with this large pink mustache on the front.

After getting the shot and a quick search on google I was able to determine the origins of the Pink Mustache, apparently they are an identifier for a donation based transportation company.  You can use an app on your smart phone where you request your ride and give your donation with your credit card.  Then you simply wait for your ride.  If you would like to find out a little more about the pink mustache cars you can check out an article on I Heart Pittsburgh.

I would like to gear some of your stories about that thing that just makes you go “WHAT??”

365 – 98 Reflection

Todays photo comes to you from my trip to the park on Sunday.  As I was getting ready to leave I noticed a group of trees that were highlighted by the setting sun.  I liked the way they reflected in the water as well.  So needless to say I’ll check this spot out as the leaves come out and throughout the summer and fall.

365 – 97 What’s that Thing on the Tree

For those of you that follow my blog you know that I photograph just about anything and todays post is no different.  I shot this while taking a walk in the woods, as I took the picture I started thinking. How many people would look at me weird if they sam me crawling around in the mud taking a picture of something most would avoid.  I’m sure I’ve gotten many of those looks and comments over the years but frankly I don’t give a hoot.  Photography has led me in many directions over the years, weddings, professional sports, racing, but there is nothing like hanging out in the woods, not thinking about life, and taking photos of whatever little thing you think might look interesting.

I guess the moral of the story is:  Do more of what makes you happy.

Oh and by the way that weird thing I was taking pictures of was none other than a fungus.

What are some of the weird comments made to you while out taking photos?

365 – 96 The Mysterious Disappearing Duck

So today on my way home from work I took a quick trip to Cedar Creek Park in Westmoreland County.  The park has several walking trails and is a great place to clear your mind and enjoy the weather.

Today as I started on the Gorge Trail I noticed a duck in the stream, so I changed lenses on my camera to get a few shots of him but the duck disappeared.  At first I thought he had just flown away but then I noticed him up-stream about 20 feet.  As I was taking some photos the duck went under water and disappeared once again.  I watched up-stream and he reappeared in the same location as before.  I watched him do this several times floating down stream and swimming back up-stream under the water.  I was amazed that he would disappear and reappear in the same place every time.

So anyhow here is a picture of the disappearing duck that I encountered on my walk today in Cedar Creek Park.

365 – 95 The Lady in Red

Tonight we head back to the streets of Pittsburgh.  This was another shot that I struggled with between color and b&w, but ultimately decided to do a little of both.

I had noticed this woman walking down the street and obviously it was the red coat that caught my eye.  I took a few shots and thought that it would make a good color street shot as the awning above her is a bright yellow. But, once I got it on the computer I felt that the full color version was just a little too busy and detracted from the Lady in Red.

How do you make the decision to go from color to b&w?

365 – 94 Express Your Inner Color

Todays photo takes us back to the streets of Pittsburgh.  As it rained all day today I had to go back a couple of days for this shot.  As I was walking down the street the bright yellow jacket that this girls was wearing caught my attention.  So I took a couple of shots of her and moved on.  As I was preparing the photo for this post I noticed that she was wearing two different socks.  Both of which are bright and stand out like her jacket. What amazes me as that she was perfectly fine with the fact that she had two neon colored socks and the bright yellow jacket.  Personally I don’t think I would be able to allow my inner color shine as loud as hers, but maybe we all need to let our inner color out a little more often.

How do you let your inner color shine????

365 – 93 Medieval Reflection

And now for your second dose of my vision of the world.  Tonights photo is a reflection of the PPG building in Pittsburgh, but it really reminded of something you might see at a renaissance festival or in a movie set during the times of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.

Wouldn’t it be fun to be a photographer in those times?

365 – 92 Under the Blue Sky

Once again I missed publishing my post do tonight your getting another double dose.

This one was from my trip to Mt. Washington.  I really like the light steams that are made from the cars on the roadways.  They just seem to give the city a little more life.

What do you think?
