365 – 93 Medieval Reflection

And now for your second dose of my vision of the world.  Tonights photo is a reflection of the PPG building in Pittsburgh, but it really reminded of something you might see at a renaissance festival or in a movie set during the times of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.

Wouldn’t it be fun to be a photographer in those times?

365 – 92 Under the Blue Sky

Once again I missed publishing my post do tonight your getting another double dose.

This one was from my trip to Mt. Washington.  I really like the light steams that are made from the cars on the roadways.  They just seem to give the city a little more life.

What do you think?

365 – 91 Night Helicopter

Tonight’s photo is a shot from atop Mt. Washington overlooking the beautiful city of Pittsburgh, Pa.  I’ve shot from here dozens of times but every time I am amazed at the view of the city.  It’s really an amazing place to watch the city transform from daylight, to evening, and then night.  It’s as if the city takes on a completely different personality when the sun drops and the lights come on.

I call this photo Night Helicopter as the streak of light on the right side was a helicopter flying by headed towards Oakland.

365 – 90 Sunset in the City

Yesterday I came home and started to upload the photos that I took for my 365 project, sat down on the couch and woke up this morning at 6:38am.  Needles to say I missed adding my photo for yesterday.  So tonight I’m going to post both yesterday and todays photos.

This photo was shot just as the sun was going down over the city. What caught my eye was the way the sunset reflected off of the building.

Project 365 | Day 83 Across the River

Tonight I decided to walk in a different direction after work.  I wandered around heading towards the Smithfield Street Bridge and took a photo from the city side looking at Station Square.  I really liked the way the sky shows the daylight escaping as the reflections in the water show the night life of the city taking over.

Project 365 | Day 82 Workplace Creation

Tonight we venture in Pittsburgh once again and I came across this sign in a work area where they are building another skyscraper. I thought that the photo and the sign went together perfectly.

As the sign says; “How can you create the best possible workplace?”

Project 365 | Day 81 Light Movement

Tonight we take a look at the corner of Grant and Sixth Avenue in Pittsburgh for a little light movement.  I enjoy shooting in the evening and at night because of the ability to change how a simple corner shot of a street can be made interesting with just a small adjustment in your camera.  I’m referring to a long exposure to show the movement of light from cars, trains, airplanes, boats, well you get the point.

Tonight I didn’t set out to shoot for movement or I would have lugged along my trusty Bogen tripod. So when I decided to shot for the “movement” I had to figure a way to hold the camera still for the longer exposure.  As luck would have it there was a street barricade on the corner left over from the St. Patrick’s day parade.  I was able to balance my camera on the barricade and hold it still enough to take the 1/2 second exposure.  I think it worked out fairly well.

What crazy things have you used to steady your camera when you were without your tripod?

Project 365 | Day 80 Into the Night

Today we head to the intersection of 5th avenue and Grant Street in Pittsburgh.  I call this photo “Into the Night” because it was taken as the day light slipped away and the night was overtaking the city.  I like the way the last bit of daylight reflects in the windows of the building on the left as the rest are being covered in the cold darkness of the night.

What do you think of the photo or mood of the photo?  What does it make you feel?

Project 365 | Day 79 5th Ave

This evenings photo was taken while I was out on my walk in the city.  As I was crossing 5th Avenue in Pittsburgh,  I stopped and took a few shots down the street.  When I got home and uploaded the photos to my computer I was surprised at both the color of the sky and the fact that there wasn’t anyone on the street.  Those of you that are familiar with Pittsburgh know that 5th ave is always busy.  It is rare to find this street without humans especially just before dark.

What do you think of the composition of this photo?

Project 365 | Day 77 Portraits on a Wall

Unfortunately I was running a little behind today and didn’t make the midnight deadline for my post. I guess what they say is true “better late than never”.  With that being said lets move on to the photo for tonight.

I took this photo on Monday afternoon while I was walking around town after work.  If you are a follower of my blog you know that I spend a lot of time in the city of Pittsburgh walking and photographing just about anything, and Monday was no exception.  I walked through a part of the city I normally avoid as there is a place called Pittsburgh Popcorn and every time I get near the place I end up buying popcorn, but that’s a completely different story.  So anyhow, as I was walking and eating my caramel and chocolate covered popcorn, I turned up a small one way street and saw this sign on the wall.  After closer inspection I really don’t know what the reasoning is behind the sign.  But I took a couple of shots and moved on.  After looking at this photo I really fell in love with the simplicity of the photo and the composition.  I have both a color and B&W version of the photo but feel that the B&W really makes the photo “jump”.  Isn’t it amazing how sometimes the simplest of composition and subject matter can make for an interesting photo?
