The Slides

Tonights I am posting one of my shots from a recent quick trip to Ohiopyle.  The photo is of the natural water slides.  During the hot summer this is a great attraction to the visitors of the park and a fun way to cool down quickly.

This was shot with a Nikon D7100.  This was part of a test run with the camera to start getting a feel for how the camera works in different lighting situations and with different colors.  So far I can say that I’m impressed with the color rendition and exposure of the camera.

Hope you enjoy!

The British Are Coming….

Last night we talked about one of my favorite subjects to photograph.   Another one is reenactments.  I try to make it to as many as possible every summer.  This year is the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg.  If everything goes right I’ll be there for the reenactments this year.

This post is a photo of a group of British Soldiers having a cup of coffee and relaxing.  This was taken at a reenactment at Fort Necessity National Battlefield in Fayette County, Pa.

It’s Finally Warm Out.. Now What

Well since the warmer weather has finally ascended upon us we might be a little overwhelmed with all the fun things we can finally do.  One of my favorite things to do is check out car shows and of course take along my trusty Nikon D300.  (Soon to be replaced with the Nikon D7100, but that’s another post).

When you photograph car shows one of the challenges is the people at the show.  It can be very challenging to photograph the cars and keep the people out of the photo.  I have, over the years, accomplished this by finding interesting angles, small parts of the cars, and of course reflections.  This makes photographing the cars a little more enjoyable and you are able to get around all those annoying people.

I’m adding several photos to this post to give you a better idea of what I like to photograph at car shows.  Hope you enjoy!

A Spring Flower Poses for a Portrait

Tonight’s post is a close up of a Trillium.  I find these flowers to be very interesting because of the how the grow in great abundance in some areas and just down the trail a few feet there will be none.  There is a local park that only have white Trilliums.  I have visited the area many times and never saw a single red or yellow Trillium.  And yet other areas have an abundance of the red and not as many of the white.

This one was taken in Cedar Creek Park in Rostraver, Pa.  This park has a mixture of red, white and yellow Trilliums.  As well as many other species of wild flowers.

Hope you enjoy!

Too Much Time

When I’m out taking photos from time to time I get a little bored and then I start trying different things or just messing around.  The photo below is an example of just that, I was having fun and I think this one came out kind of interesting.

See if you can guess what the subject of the photo was….

Too Much Time

What do you think?

Tonight I met with a group of photographers for a little discussion and get together.  We talked about software, selling your photos, lighting, and how to copyright your photography.  This group is a sub group of the photography club hat I belong to.  Our goal is to have more time devoted to areas of interest that the members are interested in.  This was the first of the meeting and I think that we had a good start.

The question that I have is how do you copyright your images?  Do you register them with the government or just place a copyright on the photo as a watermark?

Signs of Spring

Recently I was able to get out and about with the photography group that I belong to and we took a trip to Ohiopyle State Park.  We stopped at the main falls then went to cucumber falls and then a quick stop to shoot a few wild flowers.  This was the first time I was able to get out for a while and I was really glad that I did.

Here are two photos of Cucumber Falls and two shots of Trilliums.

I’m Back

Well first off let me apologize for not posting for a while.  Life sometime gets in the way of all the fun things we do.  I recently got  a promotion at work and have been playing catchup for the past couple of weeks.  But I think I have things under control now so I should be able to get back to some of the things that I enjoy.

I seriously will make a honest attempt to post everyday for the remainder of the year.
