Project 365 | Day 67 Fogged In

Todays photo although a little past my deadline is a shot I took this evening in the rain-snow we were having when I walked out of work.  I had intended on taking a long walk tonight in the city but the weather had other intentions.  As I was looking for something to photograph I looked up and noticed the fog really starting to overtake the two buildings.  They are the UPMC and the Melon Building.  The building in the foreground on the right is part of the old jail and courthouse.

Project 365 | Day 65 A Murder Mystery at Baughman Rocks

For todays’ photo we head to an overlook in Ohiopyle .  This is called Baughman Rocks.  The view from Baughman Rocks is spectacular but the story behind the rocks is just as interesting.

Apparently the rocks are part of a murder mystery that took place in 1849.  The story tells of a father and his two sons that were out looking for missing cows and during their search the father got upset with one of the sons for lagging behind.  After some yelling he hit the boy with a large stick, that he had been carrying, and possibly killed him.  He then took the child and laid his body in a crevice in the rocks.  Claiming that the two boys had been running and the missing child had gotten ahead of them he thought that the boy had returned home.  So for the better part of a month a great search for the missing boy took place.  After the blame for the missing boy turned towards the father the surviving son told the story, later testifying in court against his father.  Who was found guilty and spent over 11 years in prison, all the while proclaiming innocence.  They mysterious part of the story is that the body of the boy was never found.

The question remains today did the father kill the boy and bury him somewhere in the woods, was he just knocked out and later awoke and got lost in the woods, was the human remains found in nearby pine swamp those of the boy?  We may never know the true story of the fate of the boy.

Project 365 | Day 64 Frozen Falls

For todays photo we go to the majestic Cucumber Falls in Ohiopyle State Park, Pa.  I live about 30 minutes away from this waterfall and have photographed it for many years now.  I have photographed it in every season, weather, and lighting that you can imagine and I always find something to challenge me when I’m there.  Because of the location of this waterfall exposure can be, lets say difficult, so for this shot I used a technique called HDR (High Dynamic Range).   Which is basically putting together several different photos and using the best parts of each, this one is from 5 different exposures.

Project 365 | Day 63 Three’s Company

Today I was able to get out and do a little photography and enjoy the warmer temperatures that we were graced with.  And as I was driving back I noticed a couple of whitetail deer along the roadside.  So I stopped changed lenses on my camera and turned back, pulling off the road and taking their photo from the window of the car.  Of course this got me some strange looks and I’m sure a few people were a little curious as to what it was that I was doing, but hey it’s all in the name of photography.

Project 365 | Day 62 Across the Bridge

Today’s photo is from a very cold walk that I took today after work.  Its was a little under 20ºF when I decided to take a walk around the city of Pittsburgh.  Just more proof that there is something wrong with us photographers.

This shot is looking across the 6th street bridge from the city towards the north side.  To the left of the bridge you see a glimpse of PNC Park home of the Pirates baseball team.
